In 1931, when HCJB Global pioneered the world’s first missionary radio station, shortwave radio was an effective medium for reaching most of the world. Globally, radio continues to be an effective medium that can reach into peoples' homes, touch hearts, and change lives. The face of radio, however, is changing rapidly and we also realise our need to be ready to change. It’s critical that we constantly evaluate our ministry in light of the intended audience. As well as shortwave , we and our partners now use satellite , FM and AM, to broadcast the Gospel of Jesus Christ in nearly 120 languages and dialects.
One of the significant changes to radio is its recent partnership with the Internet. Podcasting (audio programming distributed via the Web) is the hottest broadcast technology of today. Similar to radio, the Internet can be used to spread information to a global audience. Through our podcasts, we hope to reach a new, younger generation of listeners.
Radio Planting is one of our fastest growing ministries. It has
matured into what we now call "radio planting and development." We want
to see long-term relationships develop where we partner with local groups
around the world to make local radio available in an appropriate context. We
seek to empower and mobilise local radio stations to make a difference within
their communities.
