Our international broadcast site at Pifo, Ecuador has been beaming the Gospel around the world since
the 1950's. The world has changed
considerably since then, so our ministry focus has changed to reflect
that. One example of this is our
ministry to Russia and the former Soviet Union. In the past we sent shortwave
programmes behind the Iron Curtain, helping thousands of Russian believers to grow in their faith. Since the Iron Curtain came down, we now help the
Christians in those countries to reach their neighbours through radio
planting and the New Life satellite. The Pifo site is in the process of moving to make way for the new
Ecuadorian airport. The new shortwave site will be smaller and will concentrate on
reaching listeners in Latin America.
In January 2003 we began shortwave broadcasts from our new transmitter site at Kununurra, Western Australia. Currently broadcasting in 16 languages, this site has the potential to reach the whole of the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. The facilities are on a 200-acre farm owned by HCJB Global-Australia which will eventually become self-sustaining, growing crops such as sugarcane, bananas, papayas and mangos. The site is being developed to create funding and develop a ministry of encouragement to pastors, church and community leaders. More personnel are urgently needed to help expand this ministry, both with the radio broadcasts and on the farm. To find out more about working with HCJB click here .
