2005 saw an exciting development in HCJB Global’s medical work. For the first time, personnel from our
hospitals in Ecuador
formed a Medical Response Team and were sent out to help at major international
disasters.
The first team travelled to Nias Island off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, in March 2005, to help people still suffering as a result of the tsunami, three months previously. A few hours after leaving the island, whilst the team were on the mainland waiting to return home, a powerful earthquake struck Nias. Our team were amongst the first aid workers back on the scene.
Since then we have sent teams around the world, including Pakistan, Indonesia, the Middle East, the Solomon Islands, South and Central America. These teams are made up of HCJB Global Missionaries and Ecuadorian medical personnel trained in our hospital in Quito.
