Radio Planting Equipment

With the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989, the world discovered groups of Christians who had kept the faith for decades, many by listening to our shortwave broadcasts from Ecuador. Now, with newfound religious freedom, there are great opportunities for local Christian radio. Up to that point in time, broadcasting equipment was large, expensive, and cumbersome. The Lord led us to develop an FM transmitter large enough to reach a city, yet small enough to fit in a suitcase.

rpequip A missionary can arrive in a country with a transmitter in one suitcase, an antenna in the second, and production equipment in others. In a matter of a few days, a radio ministry can be "on the air." We refer to this ministry as "radio planting ."

Radio Planting began in 1991 with the in-house development of a 10-watt FM transmitter to meet the need for portable, high-quality FM broadcasting. Within several years, higher-powered transmitters were developed to allow the radio signal to go further. Working with Crown Broadcast, there is now a family of FM broadcast transmitters, from 30 watts to 2000 watts, and every single one of them still fits into a suitcase. Depending on the height of the antenna and power of the transmitter, FM radio can reach 30 miles or more.
