Nate Saint Memorial School

The Nate Saint Memorial School, for missionary children in Shell, Ecuador, began as a dream of Mission Aviation Fellowship pilot Nate Saint. He was one of five missionaries martyred by the Waorani Indians on 8th January 1956. Before his death, Nate expressed how important he felt it was for children to be able to attend school close to home and be with their parents during their tender years.

nsms Classes in Shell began in August 1964 in the home of Charlotte Swanson, the first teacher. Construction of the present two-story building, including the teacher's apartment, began in August 1965, and was dedicated on 8th January 1966, on the tenth anniversary of Nate Saint's death.

In 1967 the school was transferred from MAF to HCJB Global, and in 1981 a new building was added to facilitate seventh and eighth grade classes.

The Nate Saint School provides quality Christian education with a planned flexibility to care for children from other nationalities. We endeavour to furnish a Christ-centred, Biblical interpretation of all fields of learning, and to encourage the acquiring and development of Christian values and attitudes.

Approximately twenty-six children attend, and range from Kindergarten to eighth grade. We usually have a staff of five teachers. In recent years children from the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Finland, New Zealand, and Ecuador have studied in the school. Teachers from various mission groups and nationalities make up the staff.

The Nate Saint Memorial School is administered on a daily basis by parents from the various missions serving in the area. These include Mission Aviation Fellowship, HCJB Global, and Calvary Chapel.
