It started in the 1960s, when doctors began travelling to
areas of Ecuador
with no access to healthcare and taking much-needed medicines with them.
However, it wasn’t until September 1993, when Vozandes Community Development
obtained a truck to take medical professionals to these areas, that the medical
caravan ministry really began. In 2004 a new, purpose-built caravan replaced
the old, worn-out one.
One goal of the medical caravan ministry is to serve the
people with the healthcare they need. However, the primary goal is to share the
Gospel with as many people as possible. So, the caravan team partners with
churches and missionaries in the rural areas, shows half-hour segments of The
Jesus Film every night, and hands out many tracts and literature.
We are trained healthcare professionals dedicated to taking the Gospel to some of the most rural and forgotten areas of Ecuador. Typically, our team consists of seven members including a couple of doctors, a dentist, and assistants.
We realise that spending one week in a community providing healthcare is not sufficient to meet all of the needs of the individuals in that community. So, we’re encouraging communities to invest money in bringing a doctor in on a regular basis.
